5 Catalina Beverage and Food Pairings You Must Try

a plate of food and a glass of wine

There are no boundaries when it comes to food, but it has to look delicious to be Instagram-worthy. I love trying new cuisine as my taste buds have no limits, but I always return to my favorite food and beverage combinations. Here are some of delectable pairings you must try on your next trip to Catalina Island.a cup with ice cream on a plate

Descanso Beach Club
1 St Catherine Way, Avalon

If you want to get away from the main strip of the Island, stroll over to Descanso Beach Club and enjoy the ocean view as you dine. You can even get more comfortable in a cabana or a chaise lounge as you dine. You have to try the famous Buffalo Milk here paired with Chef Kapo’s Poke Bowl. With the tasty ingredients, the poke bowl is refreshing, while the Buffalo Milk keeps your toes on Island time filled with banana liqueur, crème de cacao and nutmeg amongst other ingredients.

Three Palms Arcade
205 Crescent Ave, Avalon

Located in the heart of the Metropole Marketplace, Three Palms is fun for the whole family with an interactive arcade, island style bowling as well as tasty food and drinks. This location is sure to please your whole group with a variety of wings, thin crust pizzas and a full bar that serves a range of cocktails, beer and wine that your taste buds will enjoy. I would highly recommend the Mango Habanero boneless wings paired with a Moscow Mule. You will get that taste of heat mixed with sweetness that will leave you wanting more, and the traditional Moscow Mule is always a wonderful pairing for spice.a plate of food and a glass of wine

Toyon Grill
708 Crescent Ave, Avalon

This unique gem just opened in the Catalina Island Conservancy newly built Trailhead building located on the waterfront. Committed to offering sustainable and hyper-local menus, this restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as pastries and coffee all day. This unique spot has a bar and is group friendly. I sampled the on tap served kombucha, which you can’t find anywhere else! This delicious beverage along with their Cheese & Charcuterie Board was the perfect pairing for me.

Café Metropole
113 Metropole Ave, Avalon

This island style, fast and casual cafe is all about being one with the community. Located in the Metropole Marketplace, Café Metropole’s menu changes seasonally, and sometimes daily. Each item is locally curated and sourced with the planet in mind. I can’t even pick a juice for the beverage pairing as they are all so wonderful. Although I would recommend trying the famous Garibaldi pressed juice made of carrot, apple, lemon and ginger paired with the Simple Avocado Toast. Your body will definitely thank you for this meal.a plate of food on a table

The Sandtrap
501 Avalon Canyon Rd, Avalon

Whether you are on a stroll or in a golf cart heading towards the Botanic Garden, The Sandtrap Restaurant and Bar is the perfect stop on the way. Based right across the street from the golf course, Sandtrap has a great casual outdoor vibe. You can’t go wrong with a couple of their delicious $1 tacos paired with a $2 draft beer served during their 2-6pm daily happy hour. Enjoy sitting on the patio and indulge.

While these are just a few of the restaurants on Catalina, there are so many more that I have enjoyed. To check out more eatery options, visit the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau.
