Camping in Two Harbors
Two Harbors is a hidden gem in Southern CA where you can put your phone away to disconnect and enjoy the world around you. This outdoor destination has one restaurant and one general store to provide you with all the essentials. If you want to explore this part of Catalina, here is a guide to help you plan your getaway.
Stay
If you are new to camping, Two Harbors is a great place to start. The campground provides beautiful views and a beach that is used primarily by other campers.
The campgrounds are a short walk from the restaurant and the general store equipped with all the essentials just in case you forget anything. If you are not sure about hauling your gear to camp, the check-in counter offers gear haul services for $5 a bag, round-trip. You can even have firewood and other essentials delivered to your campsite. If sleeping on the ground might not be for you, there are a couple tent cabins offered with cots instead of bringing your own tent.
For those not interested in sleeping outside, Two Harbors has a lovely accommodation called the Banning House Lodge which offers very comfortable rooms overlooking Two Harbors.
Play
Two Harbors is an outdoor paradise to explore by land and sea. Hiking is a popular activity to see a variety of the vistas and coves that the island is known for. Kayaking and stand up paddle boards are another away to see the island by sea. Either way is a great way to view Catalina’s unique landscape.
For those more interested in laying back, Harbors Sands is just the place. You can rent a palapa or lounge chair and enjoy watching the waves play with the sand. There is also food and beverage service right to your beach towel. Nothing like a cocktail in hand with your toes in the sand.
These are just a few ideas, but Two Harbors offers a variety of activities to enjoy.
Dine
While the campsites all have access to BBQ’s for guests to utilize, sometimes it is nice to have someone cook for you when on vacation. Just in town is the Harbor Reef that serves a wide variety of cuisines from a poke bowl to hanger steak with chimichurri sauce. A must try when in Two Harbors is the Buffalo Milk, Catalina’s signature cocktail. Throughout the Island, restaurants and bars have added their own twist to this delicious cocktail, but the original recipe was created at the Harbor Reef. This yummy beverage can either serve as a fun cocktail or indulgent dessert.
Go
Two Harbors is a quick ferry ride from the Catalina Express San Pedro terminal. If you are camping, check out the travel guidelines for helpful travel tips. Remember to make a reservation as the boats are selling out early due to reduced capacity during this time.
