Cheers on Catalina Island

Catalina is a special place where you can put your toes in the sand and enjoy a delicious drink with your meal. Now with many restaurants setting up on the beach for dinner, there are so many possibilities. From healthy to indulgent, Catalina Island has variety of drinks for any occasion. The famous Buffalo Milk that originated in Two Harbors.

Buffalo Milk

Many would agree that Catalina Island’s signature beverage is the Buffalo Milk. Named after the famous four-legged inhabitants of the Island, this drink just screams delicious. The creamy concoction has a lovely taste of banana and chocolate with a kick of vodka and coffee liqueur. Don’t worry, there is no actual buffalo milk in this cocktail.

Many of the restaurants have their own twist on this famous drink. The Island has even set up the Buffalo Milk trail, so everyone can decided who serves the best version. If you want to enjoy the original recipe, visit Two Harbors on the west end of the Island. Wherever you enjoy this classic beverage, it will be sure to please.

Bloody Mary

Although we may be partial to our Catalina Express Bloody Mary, Descanso Beach Club takes theirs to another level. When you are not sure if the cocktail should be listed under drinks or entrees, you know you are in for a treat. Not only is the Bloody Mary made with premium vodka and their own house-made bloody mix, it is topped with a cheeseburger slider, onion rings and of course the obligatory celery stick. Definitely give this a try next time you are on the Island. It’s a complete meal all in one, although the nachos are a great side dish.a bottle of beer

Aguas Locas

If you have ever tried aguas frescas, you know just how refreshing they can be. Aguas frescas are usually made by blending fruit, water and sugar. Started by Catalina Island natives, Aguas Locas took this traditional drink and added a twist with a variety of flavors like Jamaica & Cinnamon and Spicy Jalapeño & Agave Margarita. All of their drinks are made by hand with all-natural ingredients that can either be with alcohol or not. Aguas Locas can be enjoyed at Toyon Grill, Seaside Sweets and NDMK Fish House.

Spicy Mexican Lollipop

Luau Larry’s is an institution on Catalina Island. Now serving dinner beachside, the popular restaurant serves a variety of unique cocktails and great hamburgers. While it is famous for the Wiki Wacker cocktail, the Spicy Mexican Lollipop is fun twist on the traditional candy. It’s a delicious blend of tropical fruits like watermelon, pineapple and mango, with a spicy kick. It’s the perfect combo to sip on while enjoying the waves rolling in and the Catalina sunshine.

Cold-Pressed Juices

When you are feeling in the mood for a healthy option, Catalina Island has you covered. Café Metropole has a variety of cold-pressed juices that are made in-house. All of their juices are raw, organic and never pasteurized and complete with a fun Island inspired names like Emerald Bay and Garibaldi. A favorite of mine is the Paradise Cove, which consists of beet, apple, orange and lemon juice. It’s a great pick me up at any time of the day. Paired with one of the café’s sandwiches or salads, it makes for a delightful and healthy meal.Coffee to purchase from Catalina Coffee and Cookie Co.

If you need a shot of caffeine while on the Island, try Catalina Coffee & Cookie Company for your java fix. They have a variety of coffee flavors and decadent desserts. From lattes to blended frozen drinks, you will find what you are looking for. Want to take some home with you? Catalina Coffee & Cookie Company sells coffee by the pound.
