Fourth of July in Paradise
It’s one of the best times of the year on Catalina Island! Celebrate the red, white and blue just off the coast of Southern California in Avalon and Two Harbors.
Avalon Celebrations
To keep up with tradition, the USC Marching Band will start off Fourth of July weekend in Avalon on Thursday, July 3. The band will be doing a special live performance on the Wrigley Stage from 3pm to 4pm.
Fourth of July is a special holiday that is celebrated every year on Catalina Island. Avalon holds a number of events throughout the day for locals and visitors to showcase their holiday spirit. Dress up in your red, white and blue in honor of Independence Day.
Take a stroll through Avalon to admire the homes and businesses that are decorated for the Fourth of July. Each year Avalon holds a home and business decorating contest where locals get the chance to show their enthusiasm. Judging will begin at 10am and winners are announced at 1pm.
Fourth of July wouldn’t be the same without a few patriotic parades. The golf cart and dinghy parade are annual traditions to Catalina Island’s celebrations. At 1pm, watch as the golf carts drive by decorated in this year’s theme “Surfing in the USA” or the good ol’ red, white and blue. Following the golf cart parade will be the dinghy parade at 3:30pm. Pull up a chair on the beach or watch from the shoreline as the boats sail through Avalon Bay.
As the festivities continue, live music will be held throughout the day at the Wrigley Stage from 4pm to 8:30pm. Then the fireworks show over Avalon Bay will begin at 9pm. Watch the fireworks light up the night sky from your favorite spot on the beach, on Crescent Avenue, hotel balcony or vacation rental. To close out the day, the USC Marching Band will have a live performance on the Wrigley Stage after the fireworks show at 9:30pm.
Two Harbors Celebrations
Two Harbors will continue the Fourth of July celebrations the following day on Saturday, July 5. Hop on the Catalina Express boat from San Pedro for a day full of activities to celebrate Independence Day in paradise.
Kick off the day at the 39th Annual Children’s Festival located at Buffalo Park. The kids can enjoy a number of fun crafts and activities from 10am to 12pm. Shortly after, the 21st Annual Dinghy Parade will take place at 2pm. Take a seat on the beach and watch as the dinghy’s travel through the coves on the West End.
To close out the Fourth of July celebrations, there will be a spectacular fireworks show over Isthmus Cove. Before the fireworks begin at 9pm, stop by the Harbor Reef Restaurant for a bite to eat or a cool beverage to enjoy.
