All Aboard the Catalina Express
On your journey over to Catalina Island, the boat ride is about an hour to an hour and a half depending on your departure location. Enjoy your ride over with a snack and drink from the galley onboard and gaze out at the magnificent views. You might even spot a whale or dolphin! Passengers might want to bring some entertainment like a deck of cards, a favorite book or headphones to listens to some tunes on the way to Catalina. If you are looking for extra reading material, grab a copy of the Catalina Express Magazine for some ideas on how to spend your time on Catalina.
Your Island Wardrobe
First and foremost, the two essential items to bring with you are comfortable shoes and a light jacket. Comfortable shoes are always recommended because most places in Avalon and Two Harbors are in walking distance from each other. The shoes you wear also make it easier to walk on the unpaved hiking trails and sandy beaches. A majority of the year, it will be necessary to have a jacket with you. On a Catalina Express vessel or the Island, the cool sea breeze could be a little chilly, so a little cover is always nice to have.
Many visitors travel to Catalina Island during the summertime to enjoy a hot day at the beach. For this type of weather, remember to bring sun protection like sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from getting a sunburnt. It wouldn’t be an island getaway without taking a dip in the ocean, so pack your swimsuit and towel. These items will also be necessary for any water activities that people are looking to participate in, such as parasailing or jet skiing.
During the spring and fall, hiking boots are a must. Catalina offers visitors over 165 miles of trails and roads to explore. Ranging from strenuous trails to roads made for an afternoon stroll, there are no shortage of hikes that include amazing views and scenery.
If visitors need to store their items or help getting their luggage, Avalon Blue Line Baggage has lockers available located at Cabrillo Mole near the Catalina Express ticket windows in Avalon and also offer luggage transportation services to your hotel or vacation rental.
