When visiting an island, you expect to find good food especially seafood. Catalina Island is no exception with a variety of wonderful restaurants. Many buy the seafood fresh from local anglers and serve it that day.

Steve’s Steakhouse & Seafood

Located on Front Street overlooking Avalon Bay, Steve’s is the perfect place to have date night. Especially now, a table at Steve’s Steakhouse means sitting beachside looking out at the ocean. In my opinion, Steve’s makes the best coconut shrimp I have ever tasted in my life. It’s sounds like I’m exaggerating, but the coconut shrimp is really just that good. Next time you’re on Catalina Island make a stop at Steve’s Steakhouse.

NDMK Fish House

The NDMK Fish House takes “locally sourced” to the next level. The restaurant strives to source their seafood from local fisherman as much as possible. The proprietors themselves are local fisherman. Like Steve’s, NDMK has moved beachside as well, which is a hit for visitors and locals. If you’re in the mood for sushi, NDMK is the best place to go to satisfy that craving. Given that seafood is so fresh, the grilled fish plate is a great option too with the local catch of the day. Whatever the catch is Catalina’s bounty will be sure to impress.

Bluewater Avalon

Specializing in fresh sustainable seafood, Bluewater Avalon is a great place to indulge in all your seafood cravings. Located right on the water with seating in their outside patio it makes for a marvelous dining experience. It may be summer but there is never a bad time for Bluewater’s award-winning clam chowder. It really is comfort in a bowl. Bluewater is a must on your list when in Avalon.

Descanso Beach Club

Just a short stroll from the Casino, you will find Descanso Beach Club. The club offers kayak and stand up paddle board rentals, a full bar and a delicious menu to enjoy right on the beach. Imagine sitting on chaise lounge enjoying the summer sun as a server brings you a refreshing meal and fruity cocktail. For me that refreshing meal is the Descanso Beach Club’s poke bowl. There’s just something about the fresh ahi tuna, crispy wantons, seaweed salad and dynamite sauce that makes it a great summer dish.

Coyote Joe’s

Coyote Joe’s is a Mexican restaurant serving up classic dishes including ceviche. This refreshing dish is perfect for a hot summer day or any day really. Coyote Joe’s, located on Catalina St., has a very clever and delicious way of presenting their ceviche. Their ceviche avocado appetizer is served in two avocado halves and filled to the brim with ceviche with a side of chips and salsa. It is the perfect way to start any meal. Next time you are in town, definitely check out Coyote Joe’s.
