Everything in Avalon is accessible by foot. A walk from one side of the Isthmus to the other takes about 15 minutes in Two Harbors. The wide-open space of the island conservancy begins only about one hundred yards from the boat dock. Local residents walk or ride bicycles throughout the community and have cars for travel to Avalon, to the interior of the Island, or to other coves.
Some of the most beautiful parts of the Island can also be explored by way of guided tours into the interior. The interior is covered with broad valleys, isolated coves, and is home to the Catalina Island Fox, the Beechey Ground Squirrel, North American Bison, Catalina Island Quail and the Bald Eagle. There are also many endemic plants and flowers found on Catalina Island.
