By registering for the Catalina Express Travel Professionals Program, travel professionals acknowledge and agree to comply with the following terms and conditions.
Agent Responsibilities
Travel professionals must confirm all applicable fare rules, baggage limits, and special-item requirements at the time of booking. Agents are responsible for collecting accurate passenger information and communicating all relevant policies to their clients, including check-in procedures, boarding requirements, cancellation and refund policies, applicable fees, and liability limitations. Travel professionals must coordinate group travel, oversized luggage, or special handling requests in advance and promptly notify clients of any schedule changes. Clients should be advised that Catalina Express maintains limited liability for baggage and non-standard items, which travel at the passenger’s risk.
Baggage Policies
Each passenger may bring two checked bags (maximum 50 lbs. and 23” x 23” x 37” each) and one carry-on item. All luggage must be properly tagged, attended, and manageable in a single trip to the dock. Special allowances apply for scuba gear, campers, and construction workers. Bikes, surfboards, strollers, and other oversized items require advance reservation and are transported on a space-available basis; additional fees may apply. Non-standard items travel at passenger risk and may require a waiver. Certain items, including tandem bikes, electric motorcycles, kayaks, hoverboards, and hazardous materials, are prohibited.
Groups of 20 or more passengers and camp groups must coordinate with Group Sales.
Large or extraordinary freight must be arranged in advance with Avalon Freight Services.
Visit the Catalina Express Baggage Policy page for a full list of rules and guidelines.
Bicycles
Bicycles are permitted by advance reservation only and are accepted on a space-available basis for a fee each way. Standard bicycles and pedal-assist e-bikes up to 75 inches are permitted; however, the battery must be fully removed from the bicycle and secured separately for the duration of the vessel’s operation. Trailers must be detached, empty, and collapsed. Electric motorcycles, trikes, tandem bikes, and similar motorized devices are prohibited.
Pets
Catalina Express allows one pet per passenger. Pets must be leashed and secured in a full-face muzzle or airline-approved carrier while boarding and during travel. Pets must remain on deck, off seats, and out of aisles, and are not permitted in the Commodore Lounge. Pets travel at the owner’s risk and require a waiver.
Service animals are permitted in accordance with ADA guidelines; emotional support animals are not recognized as service animals.
Boarding & Onboard Procedures
Passengers receive a QR code ticket by email or text and should arrive at least one (1) hour prior to departure to allow sufficient time for parking and boarding. Boarding is announced in the designated area, and passengers must have their e-ticket ready on a mobile device or printed. Boarding gates close five (5) minutes prior to departure, and late arrivals will forfeit their seats without refund. Seating is first-come, first-served, and children under seven (7) must be accompanied by an adult. Strollers must be folded prior to boarding. Ports are wheelchair accessible, and smaller wheelchairs may be available upon request. Outside alcohol is prohibited and illegal substances are strictly forbidden.
Upgrades
Ticket upgrades and Commodore Lounge seating may be available for an additional fee and are subject to availability. Upgrades are not guaranteed, are non-transferable, and may vary by sailing. Pets are not permitted in the Commodore Lounge except ADA-qualified service animals.
Force Majeure
Catalina Express is not responsible for delays, schedule changes, or cancellations caused by events beyond its control, including weather conditions, sea conditions, mechanical issues, labor actions, government orders, or other force majeure events. Transportation may be delayed, modified, or suspended without liability for additional passenger expenses.
Third-Party Cancellation Policy
Cancellations and changes are subject to Catalina Express fare rules and applicable deadlines. Changes or cancellations made more than forty-eight (48) hours prior to departure must be processed by the travel agent and may be completed through a Catalina Express reservation agent without fee. Within forty-eight (48) hours of departure, a change fee per ticket and per direction applies. Changes during this time period must be handled through a Catalina Express reservation or ticket agent and may be initiated by either the travel agent or the customer. Changes within twenty-four (24) hours of departure must be processed at the ticket window or through the call center. Travel must occur within twenty-four (24) hours of the original scheduled departure time. Cancellations within twenty-four (24) hours of departure and no-shows are non-refundable. All cancellations for third-party bookings must be processed by the travel agent. Group bookings and third-party bookings may be subject to separate terms and conditions.
Refund Policy
Refund eligibility is determined by the fare rules applicable at the time of purchase. Non-refundable fares, late cancellations, and no-shows are not eligible for refunds. Approved refunds may be issued as a credit or to the original form of payment. Processing times may vary. Schedule changes or service disruptions may result in alternative accommodations at Catalina Express’ discretion.
Program Activity & Access Retention
Participation in the Catalina Express Travel Professionals Program requires ongoing booking activity. Travel professionals must maintain at least three (3) completed round-trip bookings within a rolling twelve (12) month period to remain in active status.
Accounts with less than three (3) completed round-trip bookings for twelve (12) consecutive months will be considered inactive and booking system access will be deactivated.
Travel professionals whose access has been deactivated due to inactivity must submit a new registration request and complete the onboarding process as a new applicant. Access is not guaranteed and will be subject to the program
