Give Dad a Catalina Vacation
Time to spend quality time with Dad and have a little adventure! Catalina Island is the ideal place for exploration or relaxing on the beach. This year for Father’s Day, give dad a getaway he will always remember on Catalina Island.
Play
Make some memories with dad that last forever. Start with parasailing, one of the most uplifting ways to spend with your dad. Soar 800-feet above Avalon and take in all beautiful views and fresh air. If you want to make your parasailing adventure a little more exciting, you can ask the crew to dip you in the ocean.
If keeping your feet on solid ground is more your style, check out one of the tours to the interior and you might see Catalina’s famous locals, the bison and Catalina Island fox. Explore the Island’s miles of paved and unpaved roads on this guided open-air tour to see nature at its finest.
Fore! You and dad could also play a round of golf on the oldest operating golf course west of the Mississippi and show off your skills on this 9-hole course. Not many can say they have played on the golf course that includes fellow golfers Craig Stadler, Corey Pavin and Tiger Woods, who first played here at the age of 4 years old and again at 14. No need to haul your clubs, the pro shop rents clubs and carts.
Get competitive with dad with a game of island style bowling or Skee-Ball at Three Palms Arcade, located in the Metropole Marketplace. Three Palms has all the traditional and new arcade games that the whole family will enjoy and have a laugh over.
Dine
Nothing is better than a tasty meal or cocktail with a spectacular view. Spend the afternoon at Descanso Beach Club and rent lounge chairs or a private cabana if you want to sit right on the beach. They have a terrific menu for both food and drinks. Dad might want to try their Ultimate Bloody Mary which pretty much comes with a meal.
Maggie’s Blue Rose is a delicious place if you are looking to have authentic Mexican food. You and your dad can enjoy some of the Island favorites like the Crispy Taquitos, Crab and Corn Empanadas, Lazy Enchiladas and Steak Street tacos your stomach will certainly find its happy place.
If dad is a fan of Italian cuisine, check out the M Restaurant and enjoy the outdoor patio facing the ocean, located on Crescent Ave. Dine on menu favorites such as the Cheesy Garlic Bread, Calamari and All-Natural Chicken Breast Milanese and you will be transported to a little Italian coastal town.
Afterwards don’t forget to stroll over for desert at Lloyd’s of Avalon, located on the front street of Avalon. They have plenty of treats to choose from like ice cream, sticky caramel apples, fresh saltwater taffy and more.
Right now, some restaurants are still serving dinner beachside, so you can have your toes in the sand as you enjoy your meal. When planning your foodie experience, we recommend visiting the Love Catalina website to see restaurants’ business hours and if you can make a reservation ahead of time.
Stay
If dad is looking for a comfortable bed after a day full of fun activities, try one of Avalon’s hotels that range from budget friendly to luxury. Save on your stay and ferry ride by booking a Boat and Hotel package. Many packages include additional amenities such as continental breakfast, discounts on tours or wine and hors-d’oeuvre receptions.
To sleep under the stars, Catalina has a variety of campgrounds throughout the Island, including Hermit Gulch which is very close to town. Tent cabins are even offered at some campgrounds, so you don’t have to haul all your gear from the mainland.
Remember to make your boat reservation early to ensure your ideal travel times. If you are not sure dad’s schedule, present him with a Catalina Express gift card on Father’s Day, so you can plan the getaway together.
